Poem #5 of 100 – I Thought It Was a Villanelle

(From November 2018 through March 2019, I wrote one poem a day for 100 days at my Facebook page. While I get my act together to return to ranking things, I will be reprinting the poems here. I’m currently writing another 100 poems. Rankings will resume soon)

I often churn doggerel out
A mantra keeps me plodding on
There’s many kinds of poetry

What is the name of a poem
Built on the rhyme about Mary?
I often churn doggerel out

Rhyming can be a mental trap
So I’ll appropriate haiku
There’s many kinds of poetry

Limericks are seldom funny
But I love A A B B A
I often churn doggerel out

When bereft of better ideas
I rely on meta-poems
There’s many kinds of poetry

Speed matters more than quality
Writing to the washer’s rhythm
I often churn doggerel out
There’s many kinds of poetry
